Sciatica is a Symptom, Not a Cause

Sciatica occurs when there is irritation to the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in our bodies! This nerve originates in the lower back, where it is formed from several nerve roots as they exit the lumbar spine. The sciatic nerve then travels through the buttocks and down the back of your leg, where it branches off and supplies most of your lower leg and foot.
So what does sciatica feel like? The pain that accompanies irritation to the sciatic nerve usually follows the path of the nerve down the back of your leg into your calf, and even into your foot. The pain is usually one sided and may be shooting, sharp, or intolerable and achy. It can interfere with daily activities such as walking, working, and driving.
Most common causes of Sciatic Nerve Pain:
• Disc herniation
• Spinal misalignments
• Degenerative Disc Disease
• Piriformis Syndrome

Chiropractic care can be very beneficial in treating the causes of sciatica. We utilize chiropractic adjustments which help restore the proper alignment of your spine reducing the irritation on the nerve.
